I am Julia Hoagland and I am honored to Chair the Babies and Mothers Alive (BAMA) USA Board of Directors.
We are a small but mighty group of volunteers, fueled by a passion for bringing quality healthcare to the developing world. As Board Chair, among other things, I am responsible for establishing and lubricating cohesion to help us accomplish this mission. Any work, volunteer or otherwise is best done with passion: it makes "work" fun and as a result, more gets done.
My goal is to ensure board members feel genuinely connected to our work, as well as to our culture. With this mix, we can accomplish great things together. We currently have two open board seats, so if you are someone fortunate enough to give back and possess a desire to commit your valuable time and energy to helping us further our mission of improving and saving lives, let's talk about whether your culture aligns with ours.
This month we are profiling our most recent Board member, Valentine Nsofor, who as a 'son' of Nigeria is thrilled to have joined our team. It is my privilege to have found this opportunity to participate in the well-oiled life-saving BAMA machine. Thank you to all my fellow board members who inspire me to lead every day, and my gratitude to the superstar local Ugandan staff of 43 (4X our Board size!) that makes it all happen on the ground. Hi! I’m Valentine, with a decade's experience in construction/engineering and financial services. Now, I proudly serve as BAMA's Fundraising Chair and Board member. Born in Nigeria, I love traveling and am deeply committed to supporting babies and mothers.
It is with immense gratitude and excitement that I step into my new role for BAMA. At the core of my passion is the commitment to decreasing mortality rates – a mission that BAMA relentlessly champions. To be involved in efforts that directly elevate the quality of life for newborns fills me with hope and determination. Moreover, the opportunity to give back to my home continent of Africa deeply resonates with my personal and professional goals.
Here’s to a journey filled with collaboration, innovation, and unwavering dedication to the lives of both mothers and babies!
