20th Anniversary - May Edition

Personal words from Marc Sklar
(Babies and Mothers Alive USA Executive Director)

I hope this message finds you well. As I write to you on this bright Monday morning, I can't help but smile with gratitude and excitement. It’s May 20th, another month in our big 20th anniversary year.

We don’t talk about this often, so I thought today’s newsletter was a great opportunity to take you back to our early days. And to announce our Guest of Honor on June 4th in New York.

Twenty years ago, my colleague Dr. Daniel Murokora and I shared a vision while working as physicians in Uganda, focusing on the health of women and children.

It was the summer of 2001 and we were deep into researching cost-effective methods to screen for cervical cancer.

Our collaboration and shared dedication led to the creation of Babies and Mothers Alive (BAMA) three years later.

Today, BAMA stands as a beacon of innovation—a locally-led organization that has significantly enhanced healthcare quality across six districts, touching nearly two million lives.

Our approach has always been clear: to build and strengthen long-term partnerships that empower community health workers, midwives, physicians, and district health leadership. Together, we've transformed healthcare in 83 health centers and hospitals.

It's with great pleasure that I announce Dr. Daniel Murokora, my esteemed co-founder, as our Guest of Honor at the 20th Anniversary Music for Mothers Fundraiser.

We invite you to join us for an evening of celebration, music, and community. This event not only commemorates our journey but also the incredible support you have provided.

Click the DONATE button to secure your invitation or to join in spirit. You'll enjoy a night filled with soulful music, delicious food and drinks, and the company of wonderful friends—all in support of a cause that continues to change lives every day.

15 days left and we’re 42% there. Help us reach our fundraising goal of $100,000.
